Viceroy Chicago Launches House Music Masterclass Celebrating City Sounds

Chicago’s electronic music legacy takes center stage at the Viceroy Chicago. The luxury hotel has partnered with The Vintage House Show — a radio program, podcast and collective of music historians — to present House Masterclass, an immersive program that explores the origins and evolution of Chicago house music through guided tours, private studio sessions and curated experiences.

House music emerged in Chicago in the late 1970s and quickly shaped the city’s cultural identity. The House Masterclass experience brings that history to life. Guests receive an exclusive in-room welcome amenity and join historian-led tours of landmark venues tied to the scene, including Gramophone Records and The Warehouse. Luxury car service transports participants between tour locations, and the highlight of the program is a private in-studio mixing session with a pioneering figure from Chicago’s house community — possibilities include The Warehouse founder Robert Williams, acclaimed producer and DJ Joe Smooth, or DJ Lady D, often called the “Queen of Chicago House Music.” Selected mixing sessions can also be broadcast live on WNUR 89.3 FM, a station with deep roots in the local music scene.

“At Viceroy Chicago, we are proud to connect our guests with the soul of the city through curated experiences that celebrate its rich history, diverse culture and legendary arts scene,” said Patrick Lacassagne, general manager of Viceroy Chicago. “Collaborating with The Vintage House Show allows us to offer an authentic, immersive journey into Chicago’s creative spirit, from its iconic neighborhoods to the birthplace of a genre loved around the world.”

Located in the Gold Coast neighborhood, Viceroy Chicago features 180 rooms and suites with views of Lake Michigan or the city skyline. The property occupies the former site of the historic Cedar Hotel and includes amenities such as a rooftop pool and the 18th-floor Pandan lounge, where craft cocktails and small plates draw inspiration from Southeast Asian flavors.

House Masterclass is an exclusive add-on experience reserved for hotel guests. Pricing starts at $1,750 (not including accommodations), and reservations must be made at least seven business days in advance. The program is designed for visitors who want a deeper, more personal connection to Chicago’s musical heritage through expert-led storytelling, hands-on studio time and curated access to the venues that shaped house music.
