A recent study identifies the best destinations in the United States and the United Kingdom for travelers who prefer not to leave their dogs behind.
The research, conducted by comparethemarket.com, evaluates each city by measuring the number of dog salons, training centers, kennels, veterinarians and parks relative to the city’s population.
In the United States, the top-ranking cities are Long Beach, California; Mesa, Arizona; Atlanta, Georgia; Sacramento, California; and Seattle, Washington. Long Beach stands out with 985 dog training centers, more than 445 kennels and 259 grooming salons, offering a wide range of services for pet owners.
On the East Coast, Atlanta is notable for its 65 dog-friendly parks, providing ample outdoor space for owners and their pets to explore together.
The full U.S. top 25 also includes cities such as Chicago, Tucson and Baltimore. Across the country, destinations offer diverse activities for dogs and owners, from doga (dog yoga) to nose work classes where dogs are trained to detect different scents.
In the United Kingdom, Nottingham ranks first, followed by Liverpool, Hull, Birmingham and Edinburgh in the top five. Other cities that appear in the UK top 25 include Wolverhampton, Swindon and Northampton.
The study highlights features that make the UK especially dog-friendly, including sheepdog training opportunities, specialized crime scene investigation training that uses dogs, and a broad selection of dog-friendly restaurants and public spaces.
Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or a longer trip, these rankings can help you choose destinations that welcome dogs and provide services and activities to keep your pet comfortable and engaged while you travel.
