Resident Hotels has officially opened The Resident Edinburgh, a refined new hotel that transforms a formerly unloved 1960s office building into a contemporary and stylish city residence. Working with Arup engineers, the renovation reshaped the façade and interiors to deliver a modern aesthetic while respecting the building’s original footprint.
The hotel offers 164 guestrooms and suites, each thoughtfully appointed with generous ensuites, dressing areas and handy mini-kitchens equipped with Nespresso machines. Many rooms offer striking views of Edinburgh Castle or panoramas across the Firth of Forth toward the Kingdom of Fife. Accommodation types range from well-proportioned standard doubles to spacious junior suites; the junior suites include private balconies for enjoying the scenery.

Public spaces emphasize comfort and conviviality. A welcoming lounge centers on a fireplace where guests can unwind with a curated selection of whisky. For quieter moments, the hotel’s library provides a calm environment with books and cozy nooks well suited to reading or getting work done. Outside, the property benefits from the greenery of a garden square, offering a peaceful contrast to the surrounding urban streets.
“Our elegant new hotel also enjoys the verdant amenity of a fine garden square yet offers guests the best of the city right on their doorstep, many world-class destinations within a very short flat walk, unusual in a city with as many hills as Rome,” said David JM Orr, CEO of Resident Hotels Ltd. The location makes it easy to explore Edinburgh’s major attractions on foot, combining convenient accessibility with tranquil on-site spaces.

The Resident Hotels group now operates six properties across the United Kingdom in addition to this Edinburgh opening: Covent Garden, Kensington and Soho in London; Victoria in London; and Liverpool. Each property follows the group’s focus on thoughtfully designed guestrooms, useful in-room facilities and relaxed communal spaces that suit both leisure and business travellers. The Resident Edinburgh reinforces that ethos while adding a fresh, contemporary option in the heart of the Scottish capital.
