Arrival/Check-In: In previous years I toured The Langham, Chicago while it was under construction and visited the on‑site Chuan Spa, but I had never stayed overnight until a recent winter business trip. I arrived from Philadelphia early with two colleagues, well before the official check‑in time. Because we had Club‑level access, we settled into the Club Lounge to work and enjoy light bites before heading out for meetings. When we returned that evening, our luggage had already been delivered to our guestrooms, which made for a seamless arrival.
Guest Quarters: The Langham, Chicago occupies a building influenced by the minimalist design principles of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and the hotel’s public and private spaces include design touches that honor his legacy. The lobby is particularly striking; Club guests who check in via the lounge should take a moment to visit the lobby for its dramatic visual impact.
My deluxe premier room featured floor‑to‑ceiling windows with city views and an exceptionally comfortable bed that made falling asleep effortless. A tucked‑away but roomy closet and dressing area sits just inside the entry and faces the bathroom down a short corridor, providing practical separation between sleeping and dressing areas.
Room amenities included complimentary Wi‑Fi, a 55‑inch television, an oversized work desk, a spacious rainfall shower, a deep soaking tub and Chuan Spa bath products. The accommodations were thoughtfully appointed and comfortable—one night simply wasn’t enough to experience everything.
Services/Amenities: On our departure day we enjoyed lunch at Travelle on the hotel’s second floor, which serves seasonal American cuisine in a relaxed setting. For a future stay I plan to experience The Langham Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood, served in Pavilion, which is a signature offering.
The hotel’s fitness center spans more than 2,200 square feet and includes modern strength and cardio equipment, plus a studio and scheduled group classes. Chuan Spa operates daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., offering treatments and relaxation spaces for guests.
Club‑level benefits add considerable value. Perks include a morning buffet, all‑day refreshments, evening cocktails and canapés, two‑hour access to The Langham Club Boardroom, personalized butler service, complimentary pressing of three garments, and complimentary in‑town car service within a two‑mile radius of the hotel (subject to availability), among other privileges. For travelers who appreciate privacy, convenience and attentive service, Club access is worthwhile.
