From July 31 to August 23, Munich International Airport brings a surfing experience indoors with the world’s largest artificial standing wave installed in the MAC Forum event space. Open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:15 p.m., the program begins each day with kids’ camps and expert surf coaching for children from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by sessions for beginner and experienced urban surfers from 3:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
Sessions run with groups of up to 10 surfers per wave slot, each lasting 45 minutes. Surfboards, necessary equipment and the surf time itself are provided free of charge. Registration for surfing time slots opens on July 29.
The wave’s summer residency at the airport culminates in the European Championship in Stationary Wave Riding, held August 14–16. As part of the fifth-anniversary celebrations of Surf & Style, the competition will feature Munich’s urban surfers facing off against international professionals in river-surfing contests. Admission to the event is free.
This installation turns the MAC Forum into a unique urban sports venue, making surfing accessible to families, beginners and seasoned riders alike. With daily coaching for kids, free equipment and structured time slots, visitors can drop in for an introductory experience or take part in competitive events. Whether you’re looking for a family outing, a new sporting challenge or to watch top-level stationary wave riding, the airport’s surf program offers a compact, convenient and weather-independent way to enjoy the sport.
Participants should arrive a little before their scheduled slot to allow time for check-in and preparation. The event’s mix of coaching, open sessions and the European Championship provides varied opportunities to learn, practice and spectate. Free admission makes it easy for visitors to come and see the wave in action even if they don’t intend to surf.
