Sofitel Adelaide Hotel: Luxury Stay in Adelaide CBD, Australia

Adelaide is often ranked among the world’s most livable cities. With significant urban development, expanding cultural and recreational offerings, and a buoyant real estate market, both business and leisure travel to the city have increased—prompting the opening of several new hotels across Adelaide’s Central Business District.

Accor’s newest Sofitel hotel, Sofitel Adelaide, opened in fall 2021. The 251-room property introduced the first internationally recognized five-star hotel built in Adelaide in three decades and brings the brand’s signature French-style hospitality and passion for art de vivre to the city.

On arrival at the mixed-use 32-story, $105 million development, guests are welcomed by an original photographic work by Australian artist Alexia Sinclair titled “Field of Dreams,” which serves as the lobby’s focal point. Portions of this piece are used on lightboxes that illuminate the porte cochère ceiling. Throughout the hotel, modern references to ecclesiastical architecture subtly appear; design elements inspired by cathedrals in Adelaide and France are integrated into the floor patterns to create a distinctive, unifying motif.

“Our vision for Sofitel Adelaide was to bring to life three quintessential Adelaide themes—city of churches, arts and culture, and wine—and to weave these narratives into the hotel’s contemporary interiors, all of which also nod to the hotel’s cultural link to the city of Bordeaux,” said Carl Almeida of P49 DEESIGN Associates, the interior design firm behind the project.

The hotel occupies the first 24 stories of the glass tower and houses leisure and business amenities such as Garçon Bleu, a French-inspired restaurant, two bars, a swimming pool, the SoFIT health and fitness center, meeting rooms, and the Sofitel Club Lounge. Its central location places it steps from the River Torrens and within easy walking distance of the Adelaide Oval and the Adelaide Convention Centre, making it well suited for visitors attending events or exploring the city.

By combining refined hospitality, locally inspired design, and convenient access to Adelaide’s cultural and sporting precincts, Sofitel Adelaide reinforces the city’s growing appeal to high-end travelers while contributing to the ongoing transformation of the CBD.
