We needed time to unwind. After three intense days of meetings in Miami, my colleague Olivia Falcione and I were desperate for an uninterrupted 60 minutes at the spa on our final day in South Florida.
Our arrival in Miami hadn’t been calm. Ignoring our usual travel instincts, we made a last-minute decision to check our luggage at Philadelphia International Airport for our night flight to Miami. It was nearly 9 p.m., after a long workday; our suitcases were heavy with materials for meetings and the flight was direct. It seemed unlikely anything could go wrong—until Murphy’s law proved otherwise. Our luggage arrived a day after we did, and we spent the first morning in South Beach shopping for work attire before diving into a full day of back-to-back meetings. By the time we reached The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach late on our second night, we were relieved to be reunited with our belongings.
After another day of appointments and driving, we returned to the hotel for early-evening spa treatments. Once checked in, we were led through the mood-lit marble corridors to a spacious locker room where we changed out of business clothes and slipped into plush spa robes.
The spa feels a world away from the frenetic energy of South Beach. It proved a true oasis during our business trip, offering a welcome chance to recharge. The spa’s curated menu of La Maison de Beauté Carita treatments complements a wide selection of European wellness and beauty rituals. The award-winning facility features 14 treatment rooms, relaxation lounges, a salon and two couple’s suites. Many treatments draw inspiration from the nearby ocean, and the exclusive Rhythm Massage incorporates Latin-inspired music to reflect Miami’s vibrant culture.
The spa also caters to expectant mothers (beginning in the second trimester), offering four prenatal treatments—a detail that delighted Olivia, who is pregnant. Her 50-minute Mellow Mama massage was performed with her lying on her side and included a gentle abdominal massage. Using techniques and products selected to be safe for pregnancy, the treatment helps boost circulation, ease tired muscles and reduce water retention. Olivia said she was so relaxed she fell asleep during the session.

Other prenatal options include the 75-minute Smoothie, a deeply moisturizing massage; the 50-minute Healing Hour, which is tailored for the postpartum period; and Belly Bootcamp, a 50-minute, four-stage treatment recommended after childbirth to help firm loose skin.
The spa’s menu covers a broad range of services. Thirteen massage styles range from therapeutic and neuromuscular to four-hand, astro balance and lymphatic drainage techniques. Manicures, pedicures and hair services sit alongside specialized luxury rituals. Offerings also address men’s needs and include treatments suitable for children and teens.
I chose a cleansing and wellness therapy called the Taste of the Tropics Body Treatment, designed to prepare skin for beach season. The treatment is inspired by the spa’s signature Mango Guava candle—the scent instantly put me in a beachy state of mind.
Mango and guava play functional roles in the scrub for their restorative properties. Mango is rich in vitamin A and antioxidants that help restore skin elasticity and moisturize dry skin, while guava delivers vitamins A, B and C to support detoxification and fight free radicals.
What I love most about scrubs is the afterglow: the way skin shines and feels renewed. Proper exfoliation and nourishment can restore and rejuvenate the skin, and this treatment delivered that lasting effect.
Overall, our experience at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach was calming and restorative. From the elegant décor to the attentive, professional staff, the spa offers a setting where guests can relax, confident that every need will be met. Service throughout the hotel was efficient and friendly, from valet to bell staff, who greeted each request with a smile.
Housed in a 1953 Morris Lapidus–designed landmark building, the hotel nods to the area’s history while offering modern conveniences. Its oceanfront location includes an infinity pool, The DiLido Beach Club and more than 20,000 square feet of meeting and event space, making it ideal for both leisure and business travelers.
When we left the spa, reluctant to return to the pace of work, we received small parting gifts that kept the visit feeling personal. I took home the signature mango guava candle that inspired my treatment—a simple reminder that a few breaths of its scent can transport me back to the tropics. Olivia left with a sweet keepsake for her baby: a branded rubber duck and a bib that reads, “I had my first massage at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach.” Those thoughtful touches rounded out an already-memorable visit.
