Arrival/Check-In: I traveled to Atlanta with GT publisher and CEO Francis X. Gallagher for business meetings, and the hotel lobby was lively when we arrived. The check-in process was quick despite a short line. The front desk attendant looked up my loyalty program details and added them to my reservation, then wrote her first name on my keycard holder so I could address her directly if needed—a small but thoughtful touch.
Guest Quarters: I was pleased to be assigned a Wellness Level deluxe room, a category designed for health and well-being. These rooms feature PURE air purification, an iHome Zenergy light-and-sound therapy unit, healthier minibar options, and a Wellness App Directory with guided meditations and in-room workouts. The room also included a yoga mat, a foam roller and a stability ball. The hotel offers complimentary daily access to Resolution Fitness at 191 and provides transportation to local gyms, which I appreciated and used during my stay.
The property has 444 guestrooms and suites. My room opened to a short entry hallway with a small table and stool that doubled as a vanity. A closet stood to the right and the bathroom to the left; the bathroom showed some signs of wear and could benefit from an update. Beyond the foyer, the room expanded to a seating area with a credenza and TV, and a comfortable king-sized bed with two nightstands. A desk and the in-room wellness amenities were positioned near the windows, which offered a clear city view.
Services and Dining: The hotel’s signature restaurant, AG, is a reimagined steakhouse. I dined there one evening with my colleague and enjoyed both the Brussels sprouts and the filet Oscar. The next morning we returned for breakfast and spent time chatting with the bartender, hostess and sommelier. AG emphasizes craft cocktails, and watching the careful preparation was entertaining. The renovated interiors include distinctive design elements that add character to the dining experience.
For drinks, we visited Lumen Bar, where live music plays Tuesday through Sunday. Additional food-and-beverage options include Jittery Joe’s and in-room dining, which provide convenient alternatives throughout the day.
The hotel also offers over 17,000 square feet of meeting and event space, plus both on-site and off-site fitness facilities. One operational note: valet service can be slow at times, so allow extra time if you’re on a tight schedule.
Top Takeaways:
- In-room fitness stood out: a Peloton bike was available in my guestroom. As a regular spin attendee, I appreciated being able to keep up with my workouts and enjoyed a nostalgic 1990s-themed class from the privacy of my room.
- The downtown location made commuting to meetings straightforward, including trips near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and helped us avoid some of the city’s traffic issues during our visit.
- The concierge provided an excellent restaurant recommendation—South City Kitchen in Midtown—and the hotel’s house car transported us to and from dinner. Our driver had been with the hotel for more than 20 years, which added a reassuring level of local knowledge and professionalism.
