Arrival/Check-in: I entered the Pan Pacific and immediately looked up—the hotel’s 35-story atrium makes that an instinctive reaction. A newly renovated bar and lounge, finished in vibrant colors, occupies the atrium’s center. The reception desk, set against the vast open space, is staffed by attendants in smart white uniforms. Check-in was prompt, professional and efficient. I was escorted to my room on the Pacific Club floor in a glass elevator, allowing one more view of the magnificent lobby as I rose. A glass of fresh juice and a chilled hand towel awaited me on arrival.
Guest Quarters: My renovated guestroom, decorated in cheerful tones, offered both comfort and generous space. The real benefit of booking the Pacific Club floor, however, is access to the Pacific Club lounge and the additional privileges offered there. The room itself featured a king-size bed, L’Occitane bathroom amenities, a Hansgrohe massage shower and a large flat-screen TV with an all-in-one DVD player, all of which made the stay more comfortable. Knowing that 24-hour butler service was available added a reassuring level of convenience, even though I didn’t need to use it during this visit.
Services/Amenities: The Pacific Club lounge was the hotel feature I used most; it offers excellent views across Singapore and delivers a sense of intimate, attentive service that contrasts nicely with the scale of the property. Complimentary wireless internet in the guestroom made staying connected easy. Dining options are extensive, with eight restaurants ranging from a gourmet deli to several fine dining venues offering international cuisine. I would have welcomed an extra day to visit the spa, try the state-of-the-art fitness center and play on the outdoor tennis courts.
The Experience: Pan Pacific Singapore has 775 guestrooms and suites, and in a hotel of this size it can be challenging to maintain a personalized experience. The Pacific Club floor, though, felt like a hotel within a hotel, providing thoughtful touches and attentive service that made the stay noticeably more enjoyable. Given the difference, I would choose a Pacific Club room again over a standard room. The hotel’s location is excellent for business travelers: it adjoins the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre and sits by Marina Bay, which features a major shopping mall and other amenities.
