Outrigger Launches New Mauritius Resort: Opening Details & Dates

Outrigger Hotels and Resorts, a Hawaii-based hospitality company, has expanded its global portfolio with the acquisition of the Mövenpick Resort and Spa Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. After a planned six-month renovation of guest rooms, public areas and landscaping, the property will reopen later this year as the Outrigger Mauritius Resort and Spa.

Situated on Mauritius’s southwest coast, the resort is about 45 minutes from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) and a short drive from the capital, Port Louis. The property will offer 181 ocean-view guestrooms, three swimming pools, three dining venues and a full-service spa, all set along the island’s scenic shoreline.

“The Outrigger Mauritius Resort and Spa will reflect the hospitality, warmth and flavors of Mauritius,” said Darren Edmonstone, managing director of Outrigger, Asia Pacific. He noted the resort’s appeal to both families and couples seeking a tranquil, upscale beach getaway that celebrates Mauritius’s rich, cross-cultural character.

This opening marks Outrigger’s first entry into the Indian Ocean market. The company already operates hotels and resorts across Asia, with existing properties in Thailand, China and Vietnam. The new Mauritius resort extends Outrigger’s reach while reinforcing its emphasis on locally inspired hospitality, comfortable accommodations and resort amenities designed for relaxation and recreation.

Renovation efforts will focus on refreshing guest accommodations, modernizing public spaces and enhancing the property’s grounds to complement the island setting. The redesign aims to deliver a blend of contemporary comfort and local charm, ensuring guests enjoy modern conveniences alongside authentic Mauritian touches.

With three restaurants planned, guests can expect a variety of dining options that reflect both international cuisine and the island’s culinary influences. The spa and multiple pool areas are intended to provide relaxation and leisure activities for visitors of all ages, while the resort’s beachfront location offers easy access to coastal attractions and water-based recreation.

The Outrigger Mauritius Resort and Spa is positioned to become a destination for travelers seeking a peaceful, culturally rich island experience with the service standards and amenities associated with the Outrigger brand. The property’s reopening later this year will introduce a refreshed resort option on Mauritius’s southwest coast, catering to international tourists and regional visitors alike.
