One&Only has officially opened its first U.S. resort and its inaugural alpine community of private homes: One&Only Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Montana. Nestled on 240 secluded acres within the Moonlight Basin community and bordered by more than 17,000 acres of permanently protected land, the resort is anchored by two private lakes and offers a striking new chapter for the brand.
“Bringing One&Only to the United States is a milestone we’ve long dreamed of and there’s no place more breathtaking to make our debut than Big Sky, Montana,” said Mark Kirby, president of One&Only. “With One&Only Moonlight Basin we celebrate wild beauty, bold design, authentic connection, and endless adventure, honoring the heart and soul of Montana all year round. This is the start of an exciting new chapter for us as we continue our strategic expansion into the market.”

Located about an hour from Bozeman and adjacent to Yellowstone National Park, One&Only Moonlight Basin offers alpine-chic rooms, suites, cabins and Private Homes, each designed to frame Montana’s expansive vistas. The resort was intentionally developed with low-rise architecture so the landscape remains the dominant feature, and local materials and artwork are woven throughout the property. The design was led by award-winning architect Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig.
The resort’s Main Lodge, East Lodge and West Lodge feature guestrooms, interconnecting family rooms and king suites with separate living areas. The Big Sky Suite includes a wraparound terrace with an outdoor soaking tub. Freestanding cabins provide added privacy and outdoor soaking tubs with fire-pit seating. The four- to six-bedroom Private Homes offer full indoor and outdoor living spaces with fire pits, hot tubs, gourmet kitchens and private garage access for a seamless mountain retreat.

Executive Chef Matt Dahlkemper oversees the resort’s culinary program. Offerings include The Landing, where American comfort food meets alpine cuisine; Wildwood, which focuses on ranch-to-table fare; and Akira Back, presenting bold Japanese-inspired flavors. Dear Josephine is an intimate cocktail bar inspired by late-1800s bootlegger Josephine Doody, while Moonshack is a speakeasy-style cabin highlighting fine whiskeys and a curated cigar selection. A grab-and-go serves coffee and pastries, and poolside guests can enjoy Montana-Mexican dishes and specialty cocktails.
As an all-season destination, One&Only Moonlight Basin provides a broad range of outdoor adventures and on-property amenities. Guests can use a ski tuning center and Neo Life Boutique for gear and outfitting, then take the heated One&Only Gondola that reaches Big Sky Resort’s Madison Base in five minutes. The property features more than 15 miles of groomed and ungroomed trails for guided snowshoeing, fat-tire biking and Nordic skiing, plus an extensive trail network for guided hiking and mountain biking. Two private alpine lakes are available for fishing and stand-up paddleboarding.
Additional experiences include fly fishing on the Madison River, equestrian trail rides, guided tours and wildlife safaris in Yellowstone National Park, and stargazing in the resort’s private observatory. Families benefit from the KidsOnly club, and the 17,000-square-foot One&Only Spa offers eight treatment rooms, steam and sauna facilities, an elevated oxygen bar, an indoor lap pool, an onsen soaking tub and a cold plunge. A second-floor fitness center, outdoor tennis court and yoga deck round out the wellness offerings.
