Now is a special time of year in Nicaragua for anyone who loves sea turtles. Through January, five species of sea turtles come ashore in large numbers at La Flor Wildlife Refuge. Morgan’s Rock Hacienda and Ecolodge, located nearby, offers a guided five-hour excursion suitable for all ages that often includes the unforgettable sight of hatchlings making their first journey to the ocean. The outing is available to lodge guests for $55 per person, with a two-person minimum.
The lodge features 15 bungalows with views of the forest and sea, plus a four-bedroom beachfront house. The on-site restaurant highlights fresh, local ingredients, including produce from the property’s organic vegetable and fruit gardens. Facilities and activities include a private airstrip, horseback riding, an infinity pool overlooking the Pacific, spa services, jungle biking, birdwatching, opportunities to spot monkeys, fishing, ocean tours, snorkeling, and kayaking in the estuary. Nearby adventures include canopy tours with rappelling, surfing, and excursions to Isla Ometepe or the Granada and Volcanoes region.
