Meliá Expands Hotel Portfolio in Morocco: New Openings & Plans

Meliá Hotels International is expanding its presence in Morocco with the addition of two new luxury properties in Saidia Med. The Spanish hospitality group plans to open a beachfront 5-star hotel featuring 396 guestrooms, a full-service spa and an exclusive beach club, alongside a family-oriented resort with 150 guestrooms and an on-site golf course, both scheduled to open in 2016.

Meliá’s decision to enter the Moroccan market reflects growing leisure travel to the region and rising demand for high-quality, distinctive experiences. Gabriel Escarrer, vice chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, noted that travelers increasingly seek exclusive stays and the personalized service that defines the Meliá brand. He highlighted the company’s nearly six decades of experience and leadership in the leisure hotel sector as strong foundations for developing Saidia Med as a premier destination.

These new properties will mark Meliá’s first hotels in Morocco and expand its global portfolio, which already encompasses more than 350 hotels across 35 countries. The beachfront resort aims to appeal to luxury travelers with premium amenities and direct sea access, while the family resort will target guests looking for recreational facilities and a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere centered around golf and outdoor activities.

Strategically located in Saidia Med, both hotels are positioned to benefit from the destination’s growing appeal as a Mediterranean-style coastline with warm weather, water-based activities and resort-style leisure. By combining upscale accommodation, wellness and sport offerings, Meliá intends to attract a diverse international clientele, including couples seeking upscale retreats, families in search of convenient leisure facilities, and golfers drawn to the new course.

This expansion underscores Meliá’s broader growth strategy in key leisure markets. Bringing its signature service culture and attention to detail, the company expects the Saidia Med properties to contribute to long-term tourism development in the region while reinforcing Meliá’s reputation for quality hospitality in emerging resort destinations.
