Marriott App Overhaul Puts Loyalty Rewards Front and Center

Marriott has introduced new features for the Marriott Mobile app that deliver a more personalized experience for Marriott Rewards members. The updated app adapts to each traveler’s needs, helping streamline the stay from booking through departure.

Notable improvements include an upgraded mobile check-in and check-out process and an enhanced room-ready alert system. Loyalty members can now request room upgrades through the app and receive notifications if those requests are fulfilled before arrival. The app also supports late check-out requests, with guaranteed late check-out for Gold and Platinum Elite Marriott Rewards members.

“We know some of our most loyal guests stay with us upwards of 100 nights a year,” said Thom Kozik, vice president of loyalty at Marriott. “For them, along with members who stay less frequently, we can become a valuable part of their travel experience on a device they engage with 365 days a year.”

The updated app expands mobile service options, including a chat feature that lets guests communicate directly with hotel staff before, during, and after their stay. The mobile key capability will be rolled out to more than 500 hotels this year, allowing members to bypass the front desk and unlock their guestrooms with their mobile device.

Later in the year, Marriott plans to add a real-time messaging platform called mPlaces, which will deliver timely travel and hotel information, loyalty recognition, and special offers through the app.

Currently, the app is available for iOS in five languages, with an Android release planned for a future date.
