Celebrating everything lilac, the 5th Annual Taos Lilac Festival takes place May 19–21 in Taos, New Mexico’s renowned artists’ town. The festival is held at Kit Carson Park, where gardening experts from the Los Jardineros Garden Club will offer practical tips on planting, pruning and caring for lilacs. A special Lilac Festival Wine Dinner features a seasonal menu that includes white tuna sashimi-ceviche with a golden raisin gastrique, beef short rib biscuit pot pie, and a carefully selected wine pairing including Truchard Chardonnay 2014 (Napa Valley), Cade Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 (Napa Valley) and ZD Pinot Noir 2013 (Carneros).
Visitors can pick up a walking map that guides a self-paced tour through town to view lilac-themed window displays at participating local merchants. The festival offers a range of family-friendly activities: a taco cook-off, an artisan craft fair, a Tio Vivo carousel and live entertainment throughout the weekend. Pet lovers will enjoy a pet parade, pet costume contest and a pet blessing ceremony. Fitness-minded attendees can take part in the Lilac 5K, while food vendors serve authentic New Mexican cuisine and the New Mexico Beer and Wine Garden pours locally crafted beers and wines.
The Taos Lilac Festival blends community celebration, local culture and horticultural appreciation, making it a welcoming event for families, gardeners and visitors looking to experience regional flavors and entertainment. Whether you come for the gardening advice, the culinary offerings or the parade and live music, the festival provides a lively weekend that highlights Taos’s unique artistic and culinary scene.
