The plain, utilitarian cabin of most airplanes rarely feels welcoming to art lovers, but boutique all-business-class carrier La Compagnie briefly transformed that expectation with a creative in-flight installation.
For one month this past spring, the airline partnered with street artist Kevin Lyons to adorn 40 passenger windows on its New York (EWR) to Paris (CDG) route with playful character illustrations. Lyons, known for his bold, cartoon-inspired line work, sketched figures directly onto the window surfaces using black outlines that preserve passengers’ views outside the aircraft. The characters reflect a range of familiar personalities seen on flights — from anxious, fidgety travelers to gregarious, excited passengers — bringing small moments of delight and recognition to the cabin.
The temporary program injected color and personality into the otherwise sober interior, offering business travelers an unexpected source of amusement and conversation. Guests responded positively to the artwork, praising the effort to make the journey more engaging without obstructing sightlines.
Although the collaboration ran for a limited time, the warm reception suggests La Compagnie may explore additional artistic initiatives in the future to enhance the onboard experience. By combining functional design with thoughtful visual touches, such projects can make travel feel more human and memorable while maintaining comfort and practicality.
