British Airways introduced a new Buy On Board menu on Jan. 11 for short-haul flights, bringing refreshed food and drink options to economy cabins.
The new offering places popular British retailer Marks & Spencer at the heart of the short-haul economy experience, covering Euro Traveller and UK Domestic services to and from London Heathrow (LHR) and London Gatwick (LGW).
“Two great British brands coming together,” said Alex Cruz, chief executive officer of British Airways, noting that the change responds directly to customer requests for more choice and improved quality. Passengers had asked for greater variety and better-tasting options, and the new service aims to deliver on those expectations.
The M&S on-board menu replaces the previous complimentary service with a seasonally refreshed, buy-on-board selection. Key features include expanded choices with vegetarian, gluten-free and healthier alternatives; cashless payment in a single transaction; freshly sourced ingredients chosen for flavour; menus updated every season; all items priced under $6; and the ability for Executive Club members to pay with Avios.
Menu highlights cover a range of hot and cold items: a smoked British bacon roll served hot, a buffalo mozzarella and tomato focaccia served hot, and yogurt with summer berry compote and crunchy granola. Lighter snack options include soft apricots, wasabi peas, hand-cooked crisps with sea salt and balsamic vinegar, and a brownie bar, alongside several other sweet and savory choices. The drinks selection spans hot coffees to coconut water and wines, giving travellers a broad array of beverages to choose from.
