ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: My colleague Mary and I drove from our headquarters near Philadelphia to Washington, D.C., making the trip without major incident. The busiest stretch of I-95 between the two cities always requires attention, but we arrived smoothly. Once in the capital we took a few wrong turns, but quick rerouting had us at our destination without delay. We pulled up in front of the Kimpton George Hotel, and Mary went inside to locate the valet. A valet attendant promptly took my car keys and assisted with unloading. Inside, the front desk staff were exceptionally courteous and efficient, and we were soon on our way to our guestrooms.

GUEST QUARTERS: The hotel’s George Washington theme is evident throughout, but it’s applied with tasteful, playful touches—script excerpts from speeches on an accent wall and a decorative pillow that nods to the era. My guestroom opened directly into the bedroom. To the right was a nightstand and a comfortable king bed; the bathroom entrance was to the left. The bathroom included a tub with shower, toilet, sink with vanity and tiled finishes. Opposite the bed a long unit combined a desk, minibar and dresser, with a Keurig coffee maker and ample outlets for work or charging devices. A flat-screen TV was mounted above the desk. Additional seating on a couch and an end table occupied an alcove to the right of the bed, and a closet sat in another alcove near the bathroom entrance. My room did not offer a notable view and there was some street noise inside the accommodation. The bath amenities provided were Atelier Bloem.
SERVICES/AMENITIES: Each morning of my stay I enjoyed a satisfying breakfast at the on-site Bistro Bis, a longtime favorite among local leaders and business travelers—evident from the number of suit-clad professionals holding meetings at nearby tables. Bistro Bis serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and also provides in-room dining.
The hotel offers more than 2,000 square feet of meeting and event space and a 24-hour fitness center equipped with modern machines. In-room yoga mats and complimentary PUBLIC bikes expand fitness options for guests. Programs such as Wag! Premium (pet-friendly), the On-Demand Family Fridge Program (family-focused) and the Kimpton Plant Pals Program help personalize stays according to guest preferences.
TOP TAKEAWAYS:
- Its prime location directly across from Union Station makes train travel a convenient option for guests staying at Kimpton George.
- The property’s proximity to Capitol Hill means easy access to the Capitol, national memorials and numerous museums.
- On-site parking and valet service were efficient. After our two-night stay I requested my car at checkout, and despite a busy departure period, my vehicle arrived within minutes.
- I’ve now visited two Kimpton properties in Washington: Kimpton George and Kimpton Hotel Monaco. Both offer outstanding locations and the recognizable Kimpton amenities travelers expect.
