Kempinski Hotels is expanding its presence in the Caribbean with the upcoming Cayo Guillermo Resort Kempinski, the first five-star luxury resort complex in Cuba. Slated to open later this year, the property is positioned as a serene, high-end retreat away from Havana and the island’s busier tourist areas.
Set on a tranquil stretch of coastline, the resort will feature nearly 250 guestrooms and suites, designed to prioritize privacy and ocean views. Accommodation options include six expansive over-water villas and a grand over-water presidential suite, each with its own private pool. Most rooms will offer unobstructed views of the sea, allowing guests to enjoy the natural beauty of Cayo Guillermo from the comfort of their rooms.
Public facilities are planned to provide a full luxury-resort experience. Dining options will include specialty restaurants and buffet venues, complemented by a lobby bar and a dedicated cigar bar for relaxed evenings. The resort’s family-friendly amenities will include a kids club, while fitness-minded guests can use the fitness center and tennis court. Social and leisure spaces are designed to balance lively gatherings with quiet, secluded areas for relaxation.
Markus Semer, chairman of the management board and CEO of Kempinski Hotels, highlighted the company’s ongoing growth: “Having grown our project pipeline by 18 percent last year, I am delighted that this year our development growth has started equally bullish and I am very pleased to have signed our second project in Cuba.” Semer noted Kempinski’s role in introducing luxury hospitality to Havana with the Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski and expressed pride in being chosen to manage Cuba’s first luxury resort. He emphasized the company’s intent to build on the positive results and experience gained in Havana over the past two years.
The Cayo Guillermo Resort Kempinski aims to deliver a refined, exclusive atmosphere that combines Kempinski’s signature service standards with the natural charm of Cuba’s northern keys. With its combination of over-water villas, ocean-view rooms, and a comprehensive range of amenities, the resort is being positioned to attract discerning travelers seeking both relaxation and upscale experiences in a less crowded destination.
As the opening approaches, the project underscores Kempinski’s strategic expansion in the Caribbean and its continued investment in select, high-profile properties. The resort’s focus on privacy, luxury accommodations, and varied leisure offerings reflects a growing demand for premium, low-density destinations where guests can enjoy personalized service, scenic views, and a calm environment.
