Island Luxury Reinvented: Your Guide to Modern Private Retreats

The intimate Hotel Wailea on Maui has revealed the results of a $15 million renovation. Set across 15 acres and perched 300 feet above sea level with dramatic ocean views, the property features 72 one-bedroom suites, a newly finished pool with private residential-style cabanas, and an orchard-to-glass apothecary bar. Each contemporary suite showcases architectural touches such as coral and limestone walls, smoked white oak floors, and custom-crafted cabinetry complemented by local artwork. Suites include a separate living room, an oversized lanai, and a selection of kitchen amenities to enhance the sense of home-away-from-home.

The redesigned pool area provides a relaxed, resort-style atmosphere with oversized cabanas around the pool deck, comfortable sun chaises, aqua loungers, and circular pod daybeds. Guests can also enjoy a built-in fire pit and tiki torches, which add to the outdoor ambience and evening comfort.

“Today’s refined luxury traveler values privacy and tranquility above all — qualities that are difficult to find in a large beachfront resort,” explained Jonathan McManus, owner of Hotel Wailea. “Hotel Wailea fulfills the promise of effortless island luxury: a private escape where guests receive attentive yet relaxed service. Our approach emphasizes memorable personal service, making our team the defining feature of the Hotel Wailea experience.”

The property plans to continue enhancements with a next phase of additions scheduled to introduce an ocean-view treehouse and a new spa in 2015, further expanding the resort’s offerings for guests seeking quiet luxury and unique island experiences.
