IHG Opens First Hotel in the Dominican Republic

InterContinental Hotels Group has announced plans to expand its portfolio by opening its first property in the Dominican Republic. The Real InterContinental Santo Domingo is scheduled to open in 2015 and will be situated in the Piantini neighborhood on Avenida Winston Churchill, adjacent to the Acropolis shopping center—an area known for luxury dining, retail and lively nightlife.

The 20-story hotel will offer 225 guestrooms and suites designed to meet the needs of both business and leisure travelers. On-site amenities will include a lobby bar, multiple restaurants, a business center, an outdoor pool, a fitness center, a spa, plus flexible meeting and event spaces suitable for conferences and social gatherings.

Joel Eisemann, Chief Development Officer for IHG in the Americas, highlighted the brand’s motivation for entering the market: “There is significant demand for upscale, internationally branded properties in Santo Domingo, and we look forward to bringing the InterContinental brand to life in this city.” He noted that the Dominican Republic’s popularity as both a tourist and business destination makes Santo Domingo an ideal location for a new InterContinental Hotels & Resorts property.

IHG currently operates 18 hotels across Latin America and the Caribbean, and this new opening marks a strategic addition to its regional presence.
