Iberia Group has launched CO2labora, a program that lets passengers offset the carbon emissions from their flights through certified climate projects in Guatemala and Peru. Travelers can choose which specific flights to offset, selecting one or multiple journeys according to their preferences.
Using Iberia’s carbon footprint calculator, customers can view the estimated emissions for a given flight alongside the monetary contribution required to offset those emissions. The calculator incorporates four key variables to produce an estimate:
- Type of aircraft
- Weather conditions
- Operational efficiency
- Cabin class
Passengers can offset emissions at two points: immediately after purchasing a flight by selecting the “Offset Your Footprint” option, or later via the Sustainability section on Iberia’s website after the flight has taken place.

CO2labora supports two certified climate projects. The first is in Izabal on Guatemala’s Caribbean coast, focused on creating new nature reserves and preserving existing natural forest. That area hosts more than 120 species of migratory birds during winter and stopover periods, so the project protects agroforestry ecosystems and encourages ecotourism while conserving biodiversity.
The second project is located on the edge of the Peruvian Amazon and works directly with seven indigenous communities to promote sustainable livelihoods and social inclusion. The communities involved include members of the Shipibo-Conibo and Cacataibo peoples, and the project supports local enterprise development alongside conservation goals.
Iberia developed the CO2labora platform in collaboration with CHOOOSE, a partner that participated in the airline group’s Hangar 51 startup acceleration program. The initiative offers travelers a transparent, selectable way to reduce the climate impact of air travel while supporting verified conservation and community projects in Latin America.
