Iberia Business Class: Premium Flights, Amenities & Upgrades

On the Ground: My husband and I arrived in Madrid for our connecting flight to Boston, hopeful we had been cleared for a space-available upgrade. Expecting a 7.5-hour journey, we grabbed a quick snack in case we didn’t make it into business class and approached the gate agent with fingers crossed. A first look at the flight list indicated we had not been cleared, which was disappointing. I asked the agent to check once more. The double-check worked: we were upgraded. (27/30)

Pre-flight: I settled into my roomy seat and, before I had even fastened my seat belt, a friendly flight attendant offered water, orange juice, or Champagne. I asked for a newspaper, inspected the amenity kit—hairbrush, socks, eye mask, moisturizer—everything needed for a comfortable transatlantic flight, and then reviewed the in-flight menu. The attentive service and thoughtful amenities set a positive tone before takeoff. (30/30)

In-flight: Once airborne, cabin crew members moved through business class offering warm towels and beverages. I accepted a glass of Merlot and ordered honey-stung chicken with rice and mixed vegetables, alongside warm rolls. After dinner, I switched on the reading light, reclined my seat into a comfortable position, and opened my book. The flight attendant serving our section offered a cup of tea and a blanket, and throughout the flight she provided attentive, personalized care. I read for a while, then watched a movie. The combination of excellent service and a truly comfortable seat made the flight especially enjoyable. (40/40)

The Experience: Our Iberia flight felt like an extension of our vacation rather than mere transportation. We arrived in Boston refreshed; my husband joked that he wanted to take his seat home with him. The overall experience was relaxing and well executed, leaving a lasting positive impression.
