Hyatt Opens First Hotel in Malta: What Travelers Should Know

Hyatt has announced plans to open its first Hyatt-branded hotel in Malta. The new property, located on the coast of St. Julian’s, will feature 153 guestrooms and is scheduled to open in 2021. Malta’s popularity as a travel destination has grown rapidly in recent years, with tourist arrivals roughly doubling since 2010. St. Julian’s is one of the island’s most visited areas, known for its lively dining, shopping and entertainment options.

“We are excited to bring the first Hyatt-branded property to Malta, a country with a rich architectural heritage that is increasingly attractive for both business and leisure travelers,” said Guido Frederich, regional vice president of development for Europe at Hyatt. “This project offers an opportunity to expand the Hyatt Regency presence in Southern Europe, and we look forward to collaborating with experienced local developers Bay Street Holdings to introduce a distinct hotel offering to the area.”

The planned Hyatt Regency Malta will be within easy walking distance of the beach and marina, and about a 20-minute drive from Malta International Airport. Designed to serve both business and leisure guests, the hotel will include flexible event spaces suitable for corporate meetings and weddings, along with a five-level underground parking garage to accommodate visitors and staff.

The Hyatt Regency brand is continuing its expansion across Europe. Recent and upcoming openings include properties such as Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée, Hyatt Regency Barcelona Fira, Hyatt Regency Hesperia Madrid and Hyatt Regency Lisbon, reflecting Hyatt’s strategy to grow its footprint in key European markets.
