Hilton Hotels & Resorts recently conducted a study examining passport ownership and the effects of international travel. The research found that more than half of people who hold passports report feeling content with their lives, compared with roughly one-third of those without passports.
Despite ownership, 18 percent of passport holders have never used their passport, while 27 percent say they plan to use it in the future.
The study also highlighted several perceived benefits of international travel. A large majority of respondents believe that international travel is as valuable as a college education. Passport holders who travel abroad are often seen as more fun, creative, and attractive. Additionally, more than one-third of married respondents who travel internationally said that travel strengthens their romantic relationships.
“For nearly 100 years, we’ve witnessed the profound impact travel has on the lives of our guests,” said Stuart Foster, vice president of global brand marketing for Hilton Hotels & Resorts. “With more than 570 hotels located in some of the world’s most remarkable destinations, Hilton Hotels & Resorts helps make travel accessible. The Hilton Passport Project is our effort to help more Americans discover the benefits of travel and to demonstrate what a passport can add to life—whether that means greater personal satisfaction or fresh experiences and opportunities.”
Following the study, the Hilton Passport Project plans to open passport education centers at select hotels later this year.
