Air Canada passengers flying between the United States and Europe or Asia via Toronto (YYZ) can now pause their trip in the city for up to one week without paying a stopover fee. The program, created with support from Tourism Toronto, aims to encourage U.S. travelers to explore Toronto as part of their international itineraries.
“Toronto Pearson is Air Canada’s global hub and is becoming an increasingly efficient connecting point for U.S. travelers bound for Europe or Asia,” said Benjamin Smith, president, passenger airlines, Air Canada. “Beyond its convenience as a transit hub, Toronto is an outstanding short-destination option: multicultural, vibrant and full of attractions that make it well worth a pause for anyone with the time.”
The extended stopover option applies to U.S.-originating international customers connecting through Toronto on routes from more than 50 U.S. cities to Europe or Asia. Travelers may add a stopover in Toronto to either the outbound or inbound portion of their journey and remain in the city for up to seven days at no extra cost compared with a standard round-trip fare. This benefit applies to flights operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Express and Air Canada rouge.
By removing additional stopover fees, the offer makes it easier for travelers to combine business or long-haul travel with a short urban visit. Passengers can plan sightseeing, dining and cultural experiences in Toronto—ranging from waterfront walks and diverse neighbourhoods to museums and culinary scenes—without altering the overall fare of their international ticket.
Customers interested in taking advantage of the extended stopover should confirm eligibility when booking and review any applicable fare rules, baggage allowances and entry requirements. The offer is intended for connecting itineraries routed through Toronto Pearson; ticketing and travel must meet the carrier’s published conditions for stopovers and transfers.
Air Canada’s move supports leisure and tourism activity in Toronto by encouraging U.S. travelers to experience the city while maintaining the convenience and pricing of their international travel plans. The expanded stopover option reinforces Toronto Pearson’s role as a major North American connecting hub and offers added flexibility for passengers traveling between the United States and destinations in Europe and Asia.
