The Dupont Hotel in Washington, D.C., reopened in 2019 after a comprehensive multimillion-dollar renovation.
The extensive update modernized the property while preserving its distinctive character. Renovations include a redesigned lobby, a new bar and restaurant concept, refreshed guestrooms and suites across the hotel’s 300-plus rooms, and one of the city’s largest private penthouses on the rooftop floor.
Bernie Gallagher, chairman of The Doyle Collection, said the relaunch reflects a long-term vision for the hotel’s place in the neighborhood. The investment focused on creating inviting public spaces and enhanced accommodations so the hotel can function as a social and cultural hub in the heart of the city.
The hotel’s new bar, Doyle, replaces the former Bar Dupont. Styled with a mid-century club atmosphere, the space features warm finishes such as brass details, geometric patterns and open fireplaces that create an intimate, retro-inspired environment. The adjacent restaurant blends indoor and al fresco seating with Mid-Century design cues and subtle references to Washington’s iconic cherry blossoms. For lighter fare, Doyle & Co. operates as a coffee and chocolate bar offering pastries, snacks and specialty beverages.
On the rooftop level, a collection of suites culminates in a 5,000-square-foot penthouse that includes a private garden terrace with views toward the Washington Monument. The penthouse layout features two master bedrooms, a generous living and dining area, a fireplace and a wet bar. The outdoor terrace is designed for year-round use, with heating, a fire pit and a projector system for outdoor movie nights or private events.
The hotel’s refreshed guestrooms and suites were updated with contemporary finishes, improved amenities and thoughtful layouts to better serve both leisure and business travelers. The redesign aimed to balance comfort and functionality while maintaining a sense of style consistent with the hotel’s overall mid-century modern influence.
Public spaces were also reimagined to encourage gathering and connection. The redesigned lobby and lounge areas provide flexible seating and welcoming environments for meetings, casual work or socializing. The combination of indoor dining, bar spaces and an active rooftop presence creates multiple options for guests and local residents to enjoy food, drink and events.
Located in a prime section of the city, The Dupont Hotel seeks to leverage its neighborhood location to attract visitors and locals alike. The hotel’s renewed focus on food and beverage offerings, elevated accommodations and distinctive event spaces positions it as a destination for weekend visits, business stays and private gatherings.
The Dupont Hotel began welcoming guests after the renovation in spring 2019, with room rates starting from approximately $300 per night. The relaunch brought a contemporary, design-forward experience while maintaining the hotel’s strong ties to its historic neighborhood and the broader Washington, D.C. community.
