Discover the World’s Largest Rioja Wine Cellar at New Spanish Hotel

This spring, the world’s largest Rioja wine cellar opens at Hotel Palacio de Los Ángeles, a restored 17th-century palace in the heart of Haro, Spain. The Baroque hotel, set to debut April 1, places gastronomy and wine at the center of its guest experience.

The hotel’s culinary identity is guided by Michelin-starred brothers Ignacio and Carlos Echapresto, the team behind Venta Moncalvillo, which holds two Michelin stars and a Michelin Green Star. Their enogastronomic approach uses produce from their biodynamic garden, crafting menus that pair seasonal, thoughtfully sourced dishes with an exceptional selection of Rioja wines. This emphasis on terroir and sustainability is complemented by the property’s record-setting wine cellar.

Below the palace walls, an underground stone space named El Calado has been carved to honor regional winemaking traditions. Evoking the spirit of La Rioja, El Calado is designed for private tastings, wine presentations, intimate dinners and small corporate gatherings, offering an atmospheric setting that connects guests with the region’s viticultural history.

For a more casual experience, the hotel’s wine bar terrace provides a relaxed spot to enjoy local wines, signature cocktails and seasonal plates while surrounded by centuries-old stone architecture. The terrace complements the cellar’s intimate offerings with an open-air option for tasting and socializing.

Rooms at Hotel Palacio de Los Ángeles include king-size guestrooms, junior suites and two-bedroom residences, all appointed with espresso machines, bathrobes, slippers and high-speed WiFi. The on-site spa blends traditional techniques with nature-inspired rituals and scents, offering treatments and massages designed to relax and restore. The wellness area also features hydrotherapy amenities such as a dry sauna, steam room, indoor Jacuzzi and sensory showers.
