Discover Poland’s Most Stunning Castles and Palaces

A beautiful part of Poland’s cultural heritage is preserved in its historic castles and palaces. In the Wielkopolskie Province, the Antonin Palace—built as a hunting lodge in the shape of a Greek cross—was designed by Karol Fryderyk Schinkel for Prince Antoni Radziwiłł. The palace includes a music salon dedicated to Frédéric Chopin, who was a frequent guest of the prince.

In Wałbrzych, the pink-hued Książ Castle offers a dramatic mix of history and mystery: secret tunnels, legends of a ghostly princess, and stories of artworks and treasures hidden by Nazi soldiers in 1945. The 16th-century Wiśnicz Castle in Nowy Wiśnicz, with its fairytale silhouette, is rumored by some locals to be visited by the spirit of a lady in white. Once one of Poland’s most powerful strongholds, Wiśnicz now houses several exhibitions, including detailed models of Polish castles.

Moszna Castle—celebrated for its use in films and television, including productions reminiscent of classic fantasy and family movies—blends Baroque, neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance styles and is noted for its 99 lofty spires. The estate hosts summer camps for teenagers and attracts visitors with its theatrical appearance and landscaped grounds. The Royal Castle in Warsaw, whose origins date to the 14th century, has endured bombardment, destruction, looting and extensive rebuilding. Ongoing conservation focuses on restoring historic elements such as the gardens and the Kubicki Arcades. The castle’s permanent displays include a collection of Oriental carpets, the Numismatic Cabinet and the Lanckoroński Collection, which features sculpture, decorative arts and paintings by masters such as Rembrandt.

For admirers of early Renaissance architecture, Gołuchów Castle on the River Trzemna presents a distinctive example. Partially rebuilt in the 19th century in the French Renaissance manner, the castle sits within one of Poland’s largest landscape parks and offers both architectural interest and peaceful green spaces for visitors to explore.
