When you make a reservation at the award-winning EPIC Steak in San Francisco, plan to arrive hungry. Situated on The Embarcadero at the water’s edge, this classic steakhouse offers striking views—especially after dark—of the Bay Bridge. During a recent visit, my husband and I were seated where we could admire both the bridge lights and a magnificent fireplace, along with a large water pumping station that anchors the main dining area.
The cocktail menu is inventive. Curious about the Fog Point Martini, which is described as made with water collected from local “fog catchers,” I asked our attentive server K.J. Johnson about the process; he confirmed the water is indeed gathered drop by drop. In addition to creative cocktails, the bar offers curated flights such as handcrafted meads featuring options like Arizona Desert Mesquite, California Bo’ Wildflower and Madras Carrot Blossom, or a Single Village Mezcal Flight for those seeking something bolder.
Executive chef Parke Ulrich—who also directs the kitchen at EPIC’s sister restaurant Waterbar—delivers dishes that are as impressive as the waterfront panorama. The chef focuses on hormone- and antibiotic-free proteins and sustainably sourced ingredients, with an emphasis on fresh California produce. Menus evolve with market availability, but you’ll find reliable favorites across lunch, brunch and dinner. Examples include Wagyu Beef Carpaccio, a Tuscan-style Porterhouse Steak finished with herbs, garlic and olive oil, and Slow-Roasted Moulard Duck Breast accompanied by Carolina gold rice, sugar snap peas and cherry jus.
Thoughtful details enhance the dining experience: my husband’s oysters were served with freshly grated horseradish, and many dishes are built around seasonal produce and responsibly sourced seafood and meat. For dessert, we left room to try both the Mango Semifreddo and a Sweet Corn Custard Cake, each showcasing careful balance and texture. There is also a nightly selection of artisan cheeses and a Build Your Own EPIC Sundae for a more playful finish.
Between the waterfront setting, attentive service and a menu rooted in sustainable ingredients, EPIC Steak offers a memorable San Francisco dining experience that pairs classic steakhouse fare with contemporary touches and a clear commitment to quality.
