Delta Launches Direct Edinburgh to Boston Flights

Delta Air Lines is introducing a new seasonal service between Edinburgh (EDI) and Boston (BOS) in partnership with Virgin Atlantic Airways. The daily route will begin in 2019, enhancing transatlantic connectivity from Scotland’s capital.

Service launches on May 24 aboard a two-class Boeing 757-200 configured with 163 seats, including 16 lie-flat business class seats. This Boston connection supplements Delta’s existing daily service from Edinburgh to New York (JFK), offering travelers more options for direct flights to the northeastern United States.

Gordon Dewar, CEO of Edinburgh Airport, commented that North America remains one of the airport’s strongest growth markets and that demand for transatlantic services has been particularly high this summer.

Meanwhile, Norwegian has announced it will discontinue its three transatlantic routes between Edinburgh and the United States by early 2019, citing insufficient demand to sustain those services.

Delta’s scheduled timings for the Edinburgh–Boston flights are:

DL123 departs Edinburgh at 10:55 a.m. and arrives in Boston at 1:02 p.m.

DL122 departs Boston at 10:15 p.m. and arrives in Edinburgh at 9:25 a.m. the following day.

The new route is expected to benefit both leisure and business travelers, providing direct access to Boston’s extensive flight network and onward connections across North America. With lie-flat seating in business class and daily frequencies during the season, Delta aims to offer a comfortable transatlantic option from Edinburgh.
