David Lynch Exhibition at Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art

The Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, Australia, has partnered with filmmaker, musician, and artist David Lynch for a new exhibition opening on March 14. Titled David Lynch: Between Two Worlds, the show presents more than 200 works across painting, photography, and works on paper. Lynch worked directly with the museum to select and arrange the pieces into three thematic sections: Man and Machine, The Extra-ordinary, and Psychic Aches.

The exhibition examines inner conflict, the intersection of industry and nature, and the search for deeper meaning within everyday life. The gallery’s Australian Cinémathèque complements the installation by screening a retrospective of Lynch’s television, video, and film work, making his moving-image practice an integral part of the visitor experience.

In addition to the displayed artwork and film program, Lynch will take part in special events during the exhibition run. These will include musical performances and artist-in-conversation sessions; specific dates and times will be posted on the gallery’s website. The program also features events marking the anniversary of Lynch’s television series Twin Peaks, celebrating its influence on contemporary culture.

Between Two Worlds offers a comprehensive view of Lynch’s visual practice, highlighting the continuity between his cinematic and fine-art work. Visitors can expect an immersive encounter with the recurring themes and motifs that define his career: the uneasy overlap of the mechanical and the organic, the persistence of psychic disturbance, and the ways everyday objects and scenes reveal deeper emotional and psychological layers.

The exhibition’s curatorial structure — organized into clear, concept-driven sections — guides viewers through these recurring concerns, while the Cinémathèque screenings provide context for how Lynch’s narratives and images evolve across media. The result is a layered presentation that invites both longtime fans and new audiences to engage with Lynch’s multifaceted creative output.

Details about public programs, ticketing, and any additional appearances will be available from the Gallery of Modern Art. Visitors are encouraged to check the museum’s announcements for the latest information on event schedules and bookings.
