Crystal Cruises will implement an expanded no-smoking policy beginning with its first sailings in 2014. The updated rules, introduced in response to guest feedback, make nearly all indoor spaces smoke-free, including all staterooms and suites as well as the lobby lounge and onboard nightclubs.
“We have received considerable feedback and we listened. Our policies have evolved as lifestyles have changed,” said Gregg Michel, president of Crystal Cruises. “The majority of our guests worldwide are non-smoking and travelers are used to more non-smoking environments today.”
While smoking will be prohibited in most interior areas, Crystal will retain the Connoisseur Club as the only remaining indoor smoking venue. In addition, the line will continue to provide designated outdoor deck areas for those who wish to smoke cigars, pipes or cigarettes.
The change aligns Crystal Cruises with broader travel and hospitality trends that favor smoke-free public spaces. By restricting smoking to dedicated locations, the line aims to enhance comfort for the majority of passengers while still accommodating guests who choose to smoke. Crew members will enforce the policy and communicate the locations where smoking is allowed to ensure clarity and consistency throughout each voyage.
Passengers planning to travel with Crystal should review the ship’s smoking guidelines prior to embarkation to avoid any misunderstandings. The company expects the clearer, ship-wide approach to improve the onboard environment and reduce exposure to secondhand smoke for non-smoking guests and families.
