According to the 2018 Cruise Travel Report from Cruise Lines International Association, cruising ranks as a leading vacation choice across all age groups, with millennials most likely to say they “definitely will” or “probably will” book a cruise for their next getaway.
Millennials are also showing growing interest in higher-end cruise experiences—from premium lines like Princess Cruises and Holland America Line to ultra-luxury operators such as Seabourn.
The report highlights seven primary reasons millennials choose to cruise:
- All-inclusive value: accommodations, meals, onboard activities and entertainment are bundled into the fare.
- Flexibility in trip length: shorter sailings are more affordable while longer voyages reach more exotic destinations.
- Convenient departure ports: local homeports cut travel time and reduce the need for expensive flights.
- Expanded culinary options: cruise ship dining has become more diverse and appealing.
- Improved connectivity: faster WiFi makes it easier to use social media and stream content while at sea.
- Wellness offerings: ships increasingly provide wellness, spa and fitness programs that support self-care and personal discovery.
- Distinctive, hassle-free experiences: cruises deliver memorable activities and destinations in a convenient package.
