Beverly Hills Hotel Unveils Chic Redesign of Historic Cabanas

A part of Hollywood history, The Beverly Hills Hotel has long served as a refuge for stars, a backdrop for classic films, and a landmark of Los Angeles glamour. Nicknamed the “Pink Palace,” the hotel recently completed a thoughtful restoration of its private poolside cabanas, led by Champalimaud Design.

“What distinguishes The Beverly Hills Hotel from all others is its magical history. Through time it has been the destination of movie stars and socialites, kings and queens. Vivacious and brimming with life, there is a particularly strong culture around the swimming pool and cabanas. The cabanas hold prime seats to a mesmerizing show of beautiful people wading in clusters, chatting in groups as laughter permeates the air. You sit with your family, surrounded by beauty and laughter, and you watch as the amazing show goes on,” said Alexandra Champalimaud, founder and president of Champalimaud Design.

The redesign aims to balance a welcoming, residential atmosphere with respect for the hotel’s iconic poolside heritage. The renovation encompasses 11 private cabanas, each reimagined to evoke vintage Hollywood glamour while offering modern comfort. Natural textures, classic patterns and carefully chosen furnishings create an environment that feels both intimate and elegant.

Materials and details play a central role in the refreshed look. Guests will notice basket-weave seating, terrazzo-topped coffee tables, and a recurring bright-pink accent that ties the cabanas to the hotel’s signature palette. Locally sourced peach-pink side tables by Los Angeles designer Bend add a contemporary, handcrafted touch, while pink-and-white striped awnings maintain the playful, resort-style character the hotel is known for.

A standout element in the restoration is the return of the pink Martinique banana leaf wallpaper from CW Stockwell. This version revives a historic pink hue from the company’s archives to complement the hotel’s original green interiors. It’s the first installation of this iconic wallpaper since the 1940s and appears not only in the cabanas but also in The Fountain Coffee Room and along the hotel’s hallways. The large, luminous banana leaves and the distinctive color combination are deeply connected to the hotel’s visual identity and storied past.

Designed to enhance relaxation and social life around the pool, the updated cabanas offer guests a refined setting to gather, unwind and enjoy the hotel’s timeless atmosphere. Subtle modern amenities are integrated so the spaces feel lived-in and luxurious without compromising their historical charm.

The Beverly Hills Hotel’s pool and cabanas remain available to hotel guests daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., continuing the decades-long tradition of leisurely afternoons and star-studded gatherings in a setting that blends nostalgia with fresh design.
