Belmond is partnering with Alexander McCall Smith, the bestselling author of the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series, to host an exclusive safari in northern Botswana from November 10–16. The itinerary visits three of Belmond’s luxury lodges, each set in a distinct ecosystem, offering varied wildlife experiences and scenic diversity.
The six-night journey begins at Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge in Chobe National Park. Often referred to as the Elephant Capital of the World, Savute provides sweeping views of the river and surrounding plains where large herds of elephants and prides of lions are frequently seen.
Next, the safari moves to Belmond Khwai River Lodge in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve. This lodge is a year-round destination for observing a rich variety of wildlife, including predators and plains game. Guests can take part in daytime game drives and an exciting night drive to observe nocturnal animals in their natural habitat.
The final stop is Belmond Eagle Island Lodge in the Okavango Delta. Recently rebuilt and reopened, Eagle Island focuses on water-based safaris. Activities include motorboat safaris, barge cruises, traditional mekoro excursions and the option of an open-sided helicopter flight to view the Delta’s waterways and floodplains from above.
Throughout the safari, Alexander McCall Smith will join guests to share personal stories and discuss his writing. The package starts at $7,985 per person based on double occupancy and includes six nights’ accommodation (two nights at each lodge), all meals, drinks (excluding imported Champagne and South African Reserve Wines), two scheduled game-viewing activities per day, return scheduled light aircraft transfers between lodges from Maun, national park fees, laundry service and emergency evacuation insurance. Rates are based on a minimum of eight guests.
