Arizona’s Hotel St. Michael Debuts Whiskey-Inspired Speakeasy Experience

Hotel St. Michael has introduced Fire & Sword, a new speakeasy-style bar on Prescott’s historic Whiskey Row. The name honors the hotel’s layered past and the dramatic story of the site, which was once home to Prescott’s so-called “only fireproof hotel” that burned in 1900. Fire & Sword blends that history with contemporary design to create a warm, intimate gathering place for visitors and locals alike.

Designed with Prohibition-era touches and an emphasis on craftsmanship, Fire & Sword channels classic speakeasy atmosphere while offering a contemporary cocktail program. The space pairs low lighting, vintage-inspired finishes and attentive service to evoke a sense of nostalgia without feeling staged.

The cocktail menu reflects the venue’s old-world sensibility updated for modern palates. Signature drinks include the Royal Flush Martini, made with Wheatley Vodka, X-Rated passionfruit liqueur, cranberry, pomegranate and lime; Aces High, which combines Chambord, Bulleit 95 Rye, sweet and sour, egg white and bitters; and The Honest Opinion, featuring Maker’s 46 French Oak Bourbon, Ancho Reyes chili liqueur, jalapeño and blueberry syrup. Each cocktail is crafted to balance bold flavors with thoughtful presentation.

In addition to cocktails, Fire & Sword offers a curated wine list and a selection of beers. Wine selections range from a crisp Sonoma Chardonnay to nuanced French Burgundy, chosen to complement the menu and appeal to a variety of tastes. Local craft beers are also available, showcasing regional breweries such as Barrio Brewing for guests who prefer a pint.

Seasonal offerings add variety to the menu. During the holidays, guests can enjoy limited-time specialties such as the Cinnamon Maple Old Fashioned, Caramel Pecan Coffee and a Peppermint Mocha Martini. These festive cocktails complement the speakeasy’s cozy atmosphere and make it an appealing stop for holiday gatherings and evening outings.

“We’re thrilled to reopen Fire & Sword speakeasy, an experience that authentically honors the town’s Whiskey Row and prohibition history,” said Regina Kilmer, general manager of Hotel St. Michael. “This speakeasy is not only a nod to the resilience and spirit of our community but is also a celebration of timeless hospitality. We’ve preserved the historic character of the space while introducing a modern, vibrant atmosphere that invites guests to create new memories in an unforgettable setting.”

Fire & Sword positions itself as a destination for anyone seeking a refined yet relaxed evening. Whether drawn by the historic context, the carefully crafted cocktails, the wine and beer selection, or the seasonal specialties, visitors will find a comfortable setting designed to honor Prescott’s past while offering a lively, contemporary hospitality experience.
