Andaz West Hollywood: Luxury Boutique Hotel on Sunset Strip

Arrival/Check-In: I arrived at Los Angeles International Airport in the afternoon and was already running late for dinner, so I was eager to check in and change. Driving through rush-hour Los Angeles was stressful, but the Andaz staff made the arrival smooth. After the doorman welcomed me, a host greeted me immediately—there is no traditional front desk. My check-in took less than five minutes, and I was offered a complimentary glass of wine (which I declined).

Guest Quarters: The lobby emphasizes an urban boutique vibe with local artwork and contemporary furnishings that feel modern rather than classic. My room was spacious, featuring a soft king-sized bed and a sitting area facing Sunset Boulevard and the Los Angeles skyline. Once known as the “Riot Hyatt,” the Andaz West Hollywood embraces its rock history in the décor: a vinyl record sat on the writing desk, and postcards highlighted local performances with dates and venues. Walls felt a bit sparse in places, but my favorite touch was the song lyrics painted on the floor-to-ceiling windows in the sitting area—my room displayed “Light My Fire” by The Doors. The room was also tech-friendly, with ample outlets and USB ports, an alarm clock bundled with various charging cables, and a wireless charging platform compatible with certain phones.

Services/Amenities: West Hollywood sometimes gets criticized for inconsistent service, but the Andaz staff delivered welcoming, attentive hospitality. Room service hours are limited, yet hosts are very helpful with dining recommendations and directions. While working in my room I enjoyed a quick bite from the minibar, which offered complimentary snacks and nonalcoholic drinks. There was no built-in coffeemaker, but guests can request one from their personal host. Located on the Sunset Strip, rooms can be exposed to street noise, and the hotel thoughtfully provides earplugs on the nightstand.

The Experience: My stay was brief but relaxing thanks to the helpful team and thoughtful, modern touches that made things easy. The Andaz West Hollywood doesn’t feel like a traditional hotel, but its forward-thinking design and strong sense of local culture make it an excellent choice for travelers who want to experience the energy of the Sunset Strip.
