Amtrak Introduces New Dining Menu and Onboard Food Options

Amtrak is rolling out an updated dining program designed to enhance meal options for sleeping car passengers by offering delivery directly to bedrooms and roomettes.

The new service launches June 1 on the Capitol Limited and Lake Shore Limited trains. Passengers can choose to have meals delivered to their private accommodations or enjoy them in a dedicated café or lounge car.

Sleeping car guests will find a range of lunch and dinner entrées, including chilled beef tenderloin, a vegan wrap, chicken Caesar salad, and turkey club sandwiches. Breakfast offerings include an assortment of breads served with butter, cream cheese, and strawberry jam, Greek yogurt, and a plate of sliced seasonal fresh fruit.

“Our plan is to provide new, fresh food choices in a contemporary way for these overnight trains,” said Bob Dorsch, vice president of Amtrak Long Distance Service Line. “Our continued success depends on increasing customer satisfaction while becoming more efficient.”

Meals are included in the price of a sleeping car ticket. In addition to dining, sleeping car passengers receive unlimited soft drinks, one complimentary serving of beer, wine, or a mixed drink, and an amenity kit.
