Amtrak Adds Extra Trains for Trump Inauguration Travel

Amtrak expects ridership to rise around the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on Jan. 20 and is increasing train service and seating capacity in the days immediately before and after the event.

Additional seats were added on Northeast Regional trains for Jan. 20–23, and Amtrak will operate extra Acela Express and Northeast Regional trips on Jan. 21. Company officials say they will continue to monitor demand as the inauguration approaches and will adjust service as necessary.

“We’re proud to be able to provide a vital transportation service to this historic event,” said Jason Molfetas, Amtrak’s executive vice president. “Travelers who have used Amtrak before know there’s no better way to get into and out of D.C. during Inauguration week. Many streets leading into the city will be closed in the days before the Inauguration, and Amtrak brings you directly into the heart of the activity. Several Inauguration events and festivities are just blocks from Union Station.”

Amtrak is also offering travel tips to passengers planning to attend the inauguration; those preparing for the trip can find guidance and updates on Amtrak’s official inauguration information page.
