It’s a new era for in-flight entertainment: American Airlines has begun offering free movies and television shows on domestic flights for all passengers on WiFi-equipped aircraft. Implemented at the end of August, this broader rollout expands a program that had previously been available on a limited number of flights.
Passengers can now enjoy a selection of movies and TV shows, including premium channel content, either on the seatback entertainment screen or on personal devices such as smartphones and tablets. To stream on a personal device, travelers must download and use American Airlines’ official app, which is provided at no cost.
In-flight WiFi is free to use specifically for streaming the airline’s entertainment content. If passengers wish to use the internet for other purposes—such as browsing, messaging, or checking email—standard WiFi fees still apply.
This update from American follows a similar move by Delta Air Lines, which announced in June that it would make its in-flight entertainment complimentary across its domestic network.
