Alpine-Inspired Restaurant Opens at Munich Airport

Passengers at Munich Airport can enjoy a taste of the Alps before boarding their flights at Terminal 2. The new Alpine-themed restaurant Sportalm is the latest addition to the terminal’s dining options, bringing mountain atmosphere and regional specialties to travelers.

Sportalm’s interior is decorated with mountain-inspired touches and authentic Alpine features. A highlight is a real ski-lift gondola converted into seating, giving guests the feeling of dining on the slopes with views of snowy peaks and rocky terrain. The design aims to recreate the charm of a mountain hut while providing a comfortable, modern dining experience.

The restaurant spans about 800 square meters and is modeled on a traditional Upper Bavarian farmhouse. Interiors feature natural elements such as exposed tree trunks, an old barn door and a stone trough, alongside classic Alpine décor. The layout includes a lower-level sports bar for lively gatherings and an upper-level sun terrace furnished with love seats and lounge chairs, scheduled to open in April.

Sportalm’s menu focuses on hearty, home-style German fare and Alpine favorites. Diners can choose from dishes like Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancakes), alongside pasta, fresh salads and other comfort foods that suit travelers seeking familiar flavors. Because sport is a central theme, large screens around the venue broadcast live events, making the restaurant a popular spot for catching games before a flight.

With its combination of traditional Alpine design, casual seating options and a menu of regional specialties, Sportalm offers travelers at Munich Airport a cozy, atmospheric place to relax and dine that evokes the spirit of the Bavarian mountains.
