Alitalia and airberlin Form New Codeshare Partnership

Alitalia and airberlin have signed a codeshare and frequent‑flyer agreement covering more than 400 weekly non‑stop flights between Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The partnership gives passengers more route options, easier connections and the ability to earn and redeem miles across both carriers’ networks.

Under the agreement, several airberlin flights will be re‑routed to Milan‑Linate (LIN). airberlin’s three daily services from Düsseldorf (DUS) and the twice‑daily flights from Berlin‑Tegel (TXL) will operate into Milan‑Linate instead of Milan‑Malpensa (MXP). In addition, NIKI, the Austrian airline within the airberlin group, will operate its three daily Vienna (VIE) flights into Milan‑Linate.

Beyond these hub changes, the two airlines will place their respective codes on selected domestic and international services to expand connectivity. Alitalia will add its AZ code to a number of airberlin domestic routes, including Munich (MUC) to Cologne (CGN), Düsseldorf (DUS), Hamburg (HAM) and Berlin (BER). Conversely, airberlin will carry its AB code on selected Alitalia flights through Rome (FCO) and Milan‑Linate (LIN) to destinations such as Naples (NAP), Brindisi (BDS), Reggio Calabria (REG), Alghero (AHO), Athens (ATH) and Malta (MLA).

The codeshare also extends to some of Alitalia’s long‑haul services, enabling airberlin customers to book seats on flights to South American cities such as São Paulo (GRU) and Rio de Janeiro (GIG) using airberlin’s AB code. This arrangement aims to simplify travel planning by offering coordinated schedules, increased flight options and reciprocal frequent‑flyer benefits across both carriers’ route networks.

Overall, the agreement strengthens connections between key markets in Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland while improving access to regional and long‑haul destinations. Passengers benefit from more seamless itineraries, combined frequent‑flyer earning and redemption opportunities, and a broader choice of departure and arrival airports within the partner network.
