Alaska Airlines and American Airlines Expand Shared Routes and Services

Members of Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan can now book nearly 3,000 additional daily flights operated by partner American Airlines following the latest phase of the carrier’s reservation system migration. This change prepares for the consolidation of US Airways flights under the American code later this fall, expanding options for flyers across the combined networks.

Alaska Airlines has also expanded its lounge arrangement with American Airlines. Starting Aug. 15, Alaska’s Board Room members will gain access to all 54 Admirals Club locations worldwide, increasing lounge access for travelers on both carriers.

“With American’s expanded network, our loyal customers will enjoy earning and redeeming miles for travel to more than 60 additional American Airlines destinations worldwide,” said Andrew Harrison, executive vice president and chief revenue officer of Alaska Airlines. “Through our unique global partner portfolio, our customers can access an incredible virtual network of destinations and lounge locations across the world.”

Elite members of Alaska’s Mileage Plan will receive a range of reciprocal benefits when traveling on American’s extended network. These benefits include expedited security screening where available, priority check-in and boarding, complimentary or discounted access to Main Cabin Extra seats, and baggage fee waivers—enhancements designed to make connections and long-haul itineraries smoother and more convenient.

These developments reflect the two airlines’ efforts to deepen their partnership and provide a more integrated experience for frequent flyers. The increased inventory of bookable flights and extended lounge reciprocity give Mileage Plan members more flexibility for both domestic and international travel, whether booking award travel or earning miles on paid tickets.

As American completes its reservation system migration and fully integrates US Airways routes, travelers should notice a broader array of nonstop and connecting options when searching for travel on Alaska’s site or through partner booking channels. Customers planning travel in the coming months may want to check eligibility for mileage accrual, award redemptions, and elite benefits on their intended itineraries to maximize the value of the expanded partnership.
