United Airlines has announced plans to introduce non-stop seasonal service between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI), beginning May 22, 2014. Subject to government approval, this new route will be the first non-stop connection between these two cities.
The service schedule is planned as follows: from May 22 through June 11 the flight will operate five times weekly; from June 12 through September 1 it will operate daily; and from September 2 through October 5 it will operate four times per week. United intends to operate the route with a Boeing 757-200, configured with a total of 169 seats — including 16 flat-bed seats in United BusinessFirst, 45 Economy Plus seats, and standard economy seating.
United currently provides more non-stop service from Chicago O’Hare than any other carrier and has expanded its Chicago network with 11 new routes since 2013. This seasonal addition aims to strengthen the airline’s transatlantic offerings and provide travelers between Chicago and Edinburgh with a convenient, direct option during the busy summer travel season.
