Stay at Schloss Reinhartshausen Kempinski: Luxury Hotel on the Rhine

Arrival/Check-In: Schloss Reinhartshausen is a five-star hotel in Germany’s Rheingau wine region, managed by Kempinski and set on historic grounds. The site dates back centuries, originally occupied by a local knightly fort before a palace was erected in 1801. Princess Marianne of Prussia purchased the property in 1855 and maintained it with elegance and refined hospitality. That tradition of luxury is evident from the moment guests arrive. The lobby is grand, the reception attentive, and check-in is quick and efficient.

Guest Quarters: Housed in a converted two-century-old palace, Schloss Reinhartshausen offers 63 guestrooms across three wings, each served by its own elevators. One wing features contemporary suites, while the other two preserve classic, historic decor. I stayed in a junior suite in a historic wing: the suite opened to a generous entry hall leading to a spacious bedroom with a gas-burning fireplace and three windows overlooking the Rhine River. The walls were papered in broad, subtle ivory stripes. The bathroom was well appointed with plentiful toiletries and high-quality towels, meeting all practical needs with comfortable style.

Services and Amenities: Situated in one of Germany’s premier wine regions, the hotel provides a variety of dining and drinking options and maintains its own vineyard. The wine list highlights local vintages and offers an excellent selection for tasting. Guests can enjoy on-site dining, a bar, and attentive room service that complements the hotel’s refined atmosphere.

The Experience: Princess Marianne collected some 600 paintings during her lifetime; about 300 of those works still furnish the hotel’s public and private rooms, adding cultural depth to the setting. Today’s staff continue that legacy with thoughtful, courteous service. Schloss Reinhartshausen retains the look and feel of an authentic grand palace while providing modern comforts. The property is also conveniently located about 35 minutes from Frankfurt International Airport, making it accessible for international travelers.
