European Fine Art Fair Arrives in the Netherlands — Guide & Highlights

Maastricht, Netherlands, hosts TEFAF — The European Fine Art Fair — widely regarded as one of the world’s leading art fairs. This year’s edition runs March 13–22 at Forum 100 in the MECC Maastricht Exhibition & Congress Centre. TEFAF anchors a rich cultural program across the city and the wider region, including dance, classical music, jazz, opera, theater, video art, architectural performances and multiple museum exhibitions.

Notable events include “Adam, Eve & the Devil” at Marres House for Contemporary Culture. The program pairs performances and lectures with two special dinner seatings, offering an immersive art and culinary experience. Another highlight is “Henri de Fromantiou — Royal Illusions” at the Bonnefantenmuseum, the institution’s first major retrospective of the artist. The exhibition gathers de Fromantiou’s refined still lifes; the artist, known for his dual role as court painter and art dealer in Potsdam, is presented through works that reveal his technical skill and courtly connections. The retrospective runs March 6–June 28.

TEFAF and the affiliated cultural events offer a wide range of ticketed experiences, from fair admission to curated museum tours, performances and special programing. Visitors can expect opportunities to view masterworks across periods and media, discover contemporary art, attend lectures and enjoy live performances that enrich the city’s festival atmosphere during the fair.

Maastricht’s compact center and vibrant cultural infrastructure make it an ideal base for exploring the fair and nearby exhibitions. Museums, performance venues and galleries are concentrated within walking distance or a short transit ride from the MECC, allowing attendees to combine TEFAF visits with museum retrospectives, contemporary programming and evening performances.

For collectors, curators and art enthusiasts, TEFAF remains a must-visit event due to its rigorous vetting of exhibitors, the breadth of historic and modern works on display, and the international community it brings together. Complementary exhibitions and cultural offerings around Maastricht deepen the experience, creating a full calendar of art-focused activities throughout March and into late spring.
