Air travelers passing through Baltimore-Washington International Airport will soon have the option to relieve stress and stay active up until boarding.
ROAM Fitness is opening a post-security workout facility at BWI, located in the new connector between Concourses D and E. The 1,175-square-foot space will accommodate nearly 24 people at once and feature cardio machines, free weights, yoga mats, medicine balls, a TRX system and other equipment designed for quick, effective workouts.
“To ensure travelers can dedicate the appropriate time and energy for their workout and enjoy a refreshing escape from the stresses of air travel, we made sure our facility was located after security, since going through security is a time variable that can never be predicted,” said Cynthia Sandall, co-founder of ROAM.
The gym will be open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., allowing travelers to fit a session into early mornings or between connections. Members who purchase a gym pass can rent or borrow fitness gear as needed.
For added convenience, the facility will offer showers and towels that can be reserved for up to 15 minutes in one of four private bathrooms. Vacuum-sealed bags will be provided so travelers can pack their workout clothes without taking extra space in carry-on luggage.
ROAM will offer several pass options to meet different needs: a daily pass for $40, a monthly pass for $175 and an annual pass for $600. These options are aimed at both occasional users and frequent flyers seeking a consistent fitness option while traveling.
Although BWI is the first airport location to open, ROAM plans to expand its post-security gym concept. A public facility is scheduled to open at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina later in 2017.
