Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, Golf Club & Spa offers a wide range of outdoor activities, from swimming in resort pools and playing tennis or volleyball to golfing on an Arnold Palmer-designed course and relaxing at Aviara Spa. The resort’s newest offering, however, brings together two unexpected passions: surfing and cuisine.
The resort has launched the Surfing with the Chef program, led by Executive Chef Pierre Albaladejo. Chef Albaladejo invites guests to join him for a full-day immersive experience that moves from the kitchen to the shoreline. The day starts with a morning in the kitchen where guests help prepare a chef-led breakfast, learning techniques and ingredients before heading to the coast. Surf lessons follow at one of the nearby Carlsbad beaches, guided to suit varying skill levels so both beginners and experienced surfers can participate.
After riding the waves, guests enjoy a “toes in the sand” lunch on the beach prepared by Chef Albaladejo, highlighting fresh flavors and seasonal produce. As a memorable finale, each participant receives a personalized longboard surfboard that will be shipped home after their stay.
Located close to some of Southern California’s best breaks, Park Hyatt Aviara makes this experience accessible to surfers of all ages and abilities. The program is designed to be both educational and leisurely, combining hands-on culinary instruction with coastal adventure.
Chef Pierre Albaladejo, who was born and trained in the southwest of France, grew up in a surfing town and has carried his love of the ocean through a career that includes positions in St. Thomas, Pebble Beach, Hawai‘i, and now Southern California. “Surfing is in my blood,” he says, and Surfing with the Chef gives him the chance to share that passion alongside his culinary expertise, offering guests an original and memorable travel experience.
