Iberia Announces New Premium Economy Routes and Launch Dates

Iberia has confirmed the first four routes that will feature its new premium economy seats, with bookings now open for selected services later this year. Premium economy will be available from May on flights to Chicago (ORD) and New York City (JFK), from August to Miami (MIA) and from September to Boston (BOS).

The airline is retrofitting the new premium economy seat onto 21 long-haul aircraft—eight Airbus A330-300s and 13 A340s—during 2017 and 2018. In addition, 16 future A350s will come factory-fitted with the new cabin product once those aircraft are delivered after 2018.

“Our customers have a variety of preferences and priorities, and Iberia is adapting in order to meet all those needs,” said Marco Sansavini, chief commercial officer at Iberia. “The new premium economy is designed to reach a new kind of traveler who seeks enhanced service before and during international flights, but does not wish to elect for business class.”

The premium economy seat offers a 19-inch width and 37 inches of pitch, with roughly 40 percent more recline than standard economy seating. The cabin also features a larger in-flight entertainment screen for a more comfortable travel experience.

Additional premium economy benefits include adjustable head and foot rests, noise-reducing headphones and an exclusive amenity kit. Passengers in this cabin will receive priority boarding, an increased checked-baggage allowance and upgraded meal options, among other privileges aimed at improving comfort and service on long-haul routes.
